A woman and two children have mysteriously been found dead inside their home in an upscale gated community.

The bodies were discovered at the house on Pavia Way in Lakewood Ranch, outside Sarasota in Florida, about 8.30pm on Thursday.

Police arrived after the homeowner called to ask for a welfare check. The relationship between the homeowner and the deceased in unclear.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said what deputies ‘observed circumstances that prompted them to enter the residence’ and find the trio dead.

Police said preliminary information indicated all parties were accounted for and there was no threat to the community.

The home is inside the gated community of The Lake Club, which is lined with million-dollar houses.

Forensics were at the house investigating and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
