Alluring as it is with its vibrancy, there is nothing more colorful than the drama that runs Netflix’s darkly hilarious Sirens. It is clear by the reception of the show, how watching the characters, the ladies of the sea, Devon, Simone, and Michaela, flourish and pursue with fervor, was a ride for the spectators. But was it enough to want a continuation? Definitely. But, again, will the sparkling, glamor-riding limited series get the continuation it so anticipatorily is being expected to?

Five episodes of a packed-to-the-brim dark comedy were something that the audience had already expected from the creator of the miniseries Maid. But now that this has been set aside, with loosely tied ends, it has pleasantly left the onlookers expecting even more. To this, Molly Smith Metzler delightedly reacts with gratitude, “It means you have let these characters into your heart“, she says, giving dialogue to her recent interview with Glamour. Excitedly helping the audience, Metzler does not disappoint with her answer to an anticipated season two of the series but also does not give away a confirmation. She expresses, “I feel like it would be an incredible honor to work with this team and with this cast again“, while also clearing up that she would want to be back only for the right reasons.
Alongside answering questions about the second season, Metzler was also posed with questions for the final scenes of the show. As when Peter and Simone are shown sharing spaces with deepened breaths but against different backgrounds to be a hint of their impending relationship, and the final scene where Simone stands at the edge of a cliff, and how it ties to the very beginning of the show’s first episode. Questions about the fates of the remainder of the power players, Devon and Michaela are also ones that Metzler answers, letting the audience know that no matter what awaits the two characters ahead, the decisions they made for the future in the present are the most apt to their state of mind at the end of the series.
The dark comedy limited running series began and ended with a siren song for the ages. A tale as old as time, as Metzler puts it.
Sirens: A tale as old as time…an old, old story.
To summarize the ending of a dashing miniseries, a culmination of events that take place of a fateful, Labor Day weekend— secrets unravel as Devon, Simone’s older sister, arrives and disrupts the fragile dynamic. Simone’s bond with Michaela breaks when a scandal with Peter, Michaela’s husband, surfaces. Simone, desperate to avoid returning to her troubled family, betrays Michaela and aligns with Peter. The finale sees Simone stepping into Michaela’s place, while Devon and Michaela leave the island, each reflecting on their choices and the cost of ambition—a tale that definitely deserves a seat as a must-watch Netflix pick for 2025.

While it remains unofficial, Molly Smith Metzler’s open arms towards a second season for Sirens are definitely some crumbs to snack on before any confirmations. And even if there are none, the five tightly packed episodes are a perfect tale to revisit with just the perfect dose of whimsical ambiguity that an enchanting siren would have left a sailor with. Nonetheless, there is no harm in remaining both hopeful and uncertain about what comes next for the dames of Sirens.
