For decades, Dianna Borges and her husband Dwight have given tourists a unique way to experience Lake Tahoe in winter – horse-drawn sleigh rides.

Borges: “I like to tell people that Lake Tahoe is probably one of the most beautiful places this side of heaven.”

As they glide through Nevada’s Sand Harbor State Park, riders admire shimmering blue water, pristine beaches, and snow-topped mountain peaks.

And they hear stories, poems, and songs.

Borges: “So we usually start off with a little jingle (sings), ‘It’s beautiful weather for a sleigh ride together with you.’”

Borges’ father-in-law started the family business in 1967, and she says to keep it going this long, they’ve had to adapt.

Borges: “As the climate has changed over the decades, and the snow is not as consistent as it used to be, we started to put little wheels underneath our sleighs.”

That allows them to roll along the trails when there’s not enough snow to glide on the runners, so the Borges family can continue operating even as the climate warms.
