We all have cameras that we like less than the others, and falling out of love with a camera or two does happen once in a while. Sometimes, we just realize that they simply don’t fit the type of photography we want to create. Other times, we move on to newer cameras that are better able to meet our workflow needs. This is what film photographer Jason Kummerfeldt of grainydays talks about in the video above.

At the start of the video, he mentions something that happens to many film photographers: amassing a big collection of gear, often out of curiosity and desire to explore more options. Eventually, many of these film cameras get left unused, gathering dust on the shelves.

The topic is an ode of sorts to the film cameras that he fell out of love with, mostly because they no longer fit his workflow, style or preferences. To make room for more experimentation and such, he decided to let go of them. However, that’s not to say that all of them made the decision easy, or he was giving them up because all of them took bad photos.

Given the growing number of digital cameras considered “old” these days, these sentiments aren’t limited to film cameras. Most likely, it’s even easier to “fall out of love” with digital cameras as there always seems to be a new, covetable model coming out almost every year.
