We now know which Kindle models will be on sale for Prime Day

Summary

  • Amazon said Kindle devices will be discounted during Prime Day.
  • Discounts are expected to range up to 25% on Kindle and Paperwhite models.
  • Amazon also plans to offer deals on select Kindle books, but a Prime membership is required.

Ahead of Amazon’s much-awaited Prime Day, the retail giant confirmed Kindle devices will be on sale. This isn’t much of a surprise as most Amazon-owned products see steep discounts for the sale, and you can look to the Fire TV 4K Stick Max as an example of that.

The Kindle is still a prominent pillar of Amazon’s strategy, and take it from somebody who has three of them — it’s a very solid device that’s well worth the money. It gets even better when you can grab one at a discount, as even a base model Kindle costs over $100. I definitely got my money out of mine regardless of price, but your mileage may vary. What’s nice is the base model comes with a light nowadays, so there’s no need to worry about not being able to read in the dark anymore like you had to with previous models.

Amazon says to expect Kindle discounts

No telling how large they will be

Now what’s annoying about Amazon’s announcement is there’s no telling how big the discounts will be within the Kindle line. The company says there will be up to a 25% discount on both the Kindle and the Paperwhite Signature Edition. The wording suggests that it could be a minuscule 5% price cut or a much heftier 25% one.

Fortunately, Amazon Prime Day begins July 8 and runs through July 11, so it won’t be long until we find out how big (or small) the discounts are. There’s also a chance we could see some early Prime deals out of the Kindle line. It’s important to note that the regular Paperwhite, Colorsoft, and Scribe were not mentioned in the listing, so those might be omitted from the sale.

No Kindle is complete without books to read, and Amazon promises to offer deals on select Kindle books. Don’t expect the entire store to be on sale, although that would be nice. Amazon singles out Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Carrie Sot is Back, The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley, and Untamed by Glennon Doyle as some of the examples. There will certainly be more, so make sure you check out the Kindle store if you pick up a new device.

An Amazon Prime membership is required to take advantage of the deals, and that’s available for $15 a month. If you’re not currently a subscriber, you can sign up for a month, shop the sales, and then cancel without committing to a second month. With that said, Kindle Unlimited is a service worth checking out because there are always new books hitting the service, and there’s a giant backlog to sift through. That service starts at $12 a month, but you can check it out with a free trial to test the waters too.
