Matière Première Architecture, in collaboration with its sister construction company Nu Drom, has completed a new modern office building in Magog, Quebec. The space is designed to serve as the firm’s permanent headquarters and a public-facing space.
The modern office building project is situated on a forested site with views of Mount Orford. It consists of two structures — a workshop for artisanal production and the featured office. The design draws inspiration from rural vernacular architecture, featuring a minimalist form clad in untreated white cedar that will naturally weather over time. Strategic placement of full-height windows aims to create a dynamic interplay between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape, with light and views shifting throughout the day and seasons. Interior elements include a folded steel staircase with oak detailing and fabric-lined millwork intended to contribute to acoustic comfort and tactile warmth.
