Price, specs, and availability

The Bushnell Wingman GPS Speaker retails for $138 on Amazon and $150 at Dick’s. You can find decent sales on it throughout the year, so it might be worth waiting until you absolutely can’t live without Bushnell’s Wingman GPS Speaker before making a purchase. If you can afford to wait, you might save some money. You can currently only purchase the Wingman 2 on the Bushnell website.

The speaker measures 2.8 x 2.8 x 7.4-inches and weighs just over 2lbs, but it feels a bit heavier than that, as its cylindrical design takes up your entire hand. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth. The battery life is impressive, lasting up to 10 hours, which is basically two rounds of golf. This means you don’t have to charge it before every round you play. The speaker features a built-in USB port, allowing you to charge other devices. On the top of the device is a remote and on the back is a large BITE magnet designed to be used to stick the speaker to your golf cart firmly. On the other side of the speaker are large buttons that allow you to power the device on, adjust the volume, and for pressing play.

What I Like About the Bushnell Wingman GPS Speaker

From the first time I used it, I was impressed with the Bushnell Wingman because it can easily give you an edge over other golfers. In order to make it work to its fullest potential, you need to download the Bushnell Golf app. From there, you can create an account and sign in. You don’t have to use the Bushnell Golf app for GPS tracking if you prefer not to. If you only want to use it as a Bluetooth speaker, turn it on and locate “Wingman” in your Bluetooth settings.

If you’re using the Bushnell Wingman app, you can select the course you’re playing and download the course map to your app. From there, you can keep track of which hole you’re on. That syncs up with the speaker for its most crucial task: telling you the distances. The remote on the top of the speaker has a single button on it. When pushed, the Bushnell Wingman will alert you to the hole number and your distance from the center of the green. I typically struggled with distances, especially on Par 3s. Being able to get an accurate reading from my golf cart is a huge plus. I have improved on Par 3s since using the Wingman, gaining a better understanding of the distance to play and the club to hit.

The remote can be removed and carried around with you, and the bottom features a small BITE magnet that keeps it in place on the top of your speaker. The large BITE magnet is arguably the best feature of the Bushnell Wingman. You can whip your golf cart through various areas of the golf course without worrying that the speaker will fall off the cart’s frame due to the strength of the magnet. You can see the thickness of the magnet and it immediately makes sense why it’s not easy to dislodge it. It’s also fantastic that it can charge other devices if you bring the cord. That is a game-changer for anyone who wants to use the Bushnell app on their phone and needs to top up their device’s battery.

What I Don’t Like About the Bushnell Wingman

It can feel like a lot to carry

While the BITE magnet sticks the speaker to your golf cart with ease, it makes it a bit larger than it might initially seem. Also, the 7-inch height and 2lbs weight feels rather significant, especially if you’re trying to put it into your golf bag. I found it difficult to fit into some of the pockets with my bag. With this in mind, you might want to measure your bag’s storage before you consider buying it.

When using the remote, be careful not to misplace it. It’s small and can definitely get lost if it were to somehow dislodge from the cart pole. The buttons on the speaker itself are a bit difficult to press, too (you might prefer to change the volume from your phone). Overall, there aren’t many negative things to say about the Wingman, though.

Should You Buy the Bushnelll Wingman?

The Bushnell Wingman is incredibly valuable to anyone who uses it regularly on the golf course. Using the Bushnell app will help you guide yourself around the holes. When you aren’t sure how far you are for your next shot, using the speaker gives you an accurate reading and lets you know where you stand. Plus, being able to listen to music during your round kicks everything up a notch.

The Bushnell Wingman is obviously for amateurs who are allowed to have these kinds of devices on the course. If you’re someone who plays a lot of golf, the nearly $150 price tag is worth it. It’ll pay for itself the next time you go golfing and see your golf scores dipping.
