What I liked about the Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro

Immersive lighting and quality sound

The latest Govee smart lamp is an iconic device I didn’t know I needed or even wanted. It serves both functional and aesthetic purposes in the home, and with its immense versatility and portability, it can do a lot for your sensory experience in just about any situation.

The shape and design fit nicely in a modern home, with a lightweight construction and oval shape that can live on a nightstand, end table, or just about anywhere else in the home. It also has a decent battery life considering the light and audio it produces, allowing you a few hours of unconnected time together if you need it.

The patterns flow and move in a hypnotic fashion, with some options resembling a lava lamp.

It can do a lot of things that most Govee lights offer, with a seemingly infinite number of preset scenic options available, as well as the chance to adjust color, temperature, brightness, and timing. It can sync to music and pair with other Govee lights in your home to create a completely immersive sensory experience. The lamp is unique among smart lighting offerings, because it’s not just the lighting emanating that’s compelling, it’s the designs on the lamp itself that are equally an attraction. The patterns flow and move in a hypnotic fashion, with some options resembling a lava lamp. The lamp can be as much as a supplement to an event as it can be the focal point.

The Table Lamp can connect with other Govee products, including strip lights, TV lights, floor lamps, bulbs, and even a projector. Syncing up all the devices will create a complete immersive sensory experience in your home.

It also offers worthy bias lighting for evening TV. While it’s ideal to watch movies or shows in a dark room without any external light, it’s helpful to have a dim light off to the side in order to help balance out the brightness of the screen. I found the lamp to be quite complementary to the home entertainment experience.

Most surprising was the quality of the audio, though perhaps it shouldn’t be considering that JBL is proudly pairing with Govee on this device. You can operate it as a Bluetooth speaker with lighting effects synced to the rhythm or just operate on your own. The audio was rich, layered, and could be set to quite loud at times, definitely capable of filling up any room in your home. One clever addition is the sound effects that come with certain of the lighting presets.

Options such as sunrise, desert, ocean, thunderstorm, goldfish, along with a myriad of Christmas and holiday lighting combinations come with their own audio recording, which can act as a bit of ambient and background noise.

How a speaker helped improve my golf game

The Bushnell Wingman speaker allowed me to listen to my favorite tunes while providing me with information to step up my golf game.

What I didn’t like about the Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro

High cost and technical consideration

Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro synced with TV

One clear downside is advertised up front: you must connect to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in order to gain full functionality. You will have limited options when on a 5 GHz network; there are also manual buttons on the unit for pairing and power, but those don’t allow the entire range of options available to you.

The cost may definitely be a deterrent for some. A high price tag means it’s definitely an investment, although it’s worth remembering you’re putting money towards a quality lamp and a quality Bluetooth speaker. There are some limitations to the latter; it doesn’t have the compact size or portability that comes with Bluetooth speakers, and it shouldn’t go outside as it’s not designed to withstand the elements.

I’ll also grant that, for some, all the options can be too overwhelming. To fully enjoy everything the lamp offers, some time and effort should go into checking out all the various combinations it comes with. You’ll be controlling it mostly via your phone or voice, which I think some consumers won’t want to do. And sometimes it might just be easier to leave it in a particular setting instead of going through other options. What makes it fun can also at times feel like work; too many choices can be too much time spent with the lamp. You can create your own pattern of colors, and while that may be an exciting option for some, that’s an example of an extra feature that I just don’t find that compelling.

I’d suggest learning about it upon purchase and investing time setting up automatic timers and preferred settings for quick access.

Govee’s Smart Lamp 2 puts the fun in my functional smart home

With a wide range of color and brightness options and plenty of customization, Govee’s Lamp 2 is a welcome addition to my smart home.

Should you buy the Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro?

An exciting home accessory

The price may be a barrier to purchase for some individuals, but if you can afford that expense, I definitely think the lamp is worth the investment, and I do think it provides plenty of value for the cost and is probably a preferred purchase over some other indoor smart lighting options.

The reason is that it satisfies two very broad needs: the lamp is functional and practical, but also fun and versatile. It’s the latter part that requires some effort and will justify the cost. For those keen on smart lighting, craving the ability to change your sensory experience based on your mood, activity, or simply the music being played, the Govee Lamp 2 Pro will certainly take care of you.
