Premium features at a moderate price

The GameSir G7 Pro is packing a lot of features under the hood, including upgraded control sticks that swap the regular G7’s Hall Effect sticks for GameSir’s proprietary Mag-Res TMR sticks, which feature greater precision, increased durability, and lower power consumption. This is the second GameSir controller to feature this technology (following last year’s Tarantula Pro), and should help give these controllers a long life since TMR technology has fewer moving parts than those that use Hall Effect.

For those who crave customization, this controller features four programmable buttons: two extra-clicky shoulder buttons that sit neatly beside the triggers and two smartly placed under the grips. However, if you’re playing on PC the GameSir G7 Pro offers an extra layer of customization in the form of a programmable gyroscope that allows PC players to map certain functions to motion controls. So for instance, if you want to pause your game or open a menu with a vigorous shake, you can do so with this added functionality.

And speaking of PC players, the GameSir G7 Pro delivers unparalleled responsiveness on the platform with a1000Hz polling rate on PC via both wired and 2.4G connections.

Other standard features on this controller include Hall Effect analog triggers, optical micro switch ABXY buttons, a fully removable faceplate and swappable d-pad.

What I like about the GameSir G7 Pro Controller

Comfortable, customizable with features that aim to please

To test out this controller, I took 2024’s Nine Sols out for a spin. This action-platformer has drawn comparisons to Hollow Knight and features challenging level design and a unique combat system that made it perfect for testing out a controller that emphasizes performance and precision.

Connecting the controller wirelessly to my PC took only a few seconds, and within moments I was hacking and slashing my way through the sci-fi and fantasy-infused world of the game.

The controller is lightweight at only tk lbs and its textured grips are easy to hold for long gaming sessions. Thumbsticks are textured as well, providing a satisfying, tactile feel during the slightest movements. The optical micro switch ABXY buttons had a very shallow click that made rapid-fire button pressing easy without the dreaded hand cramp that sometimes accompanies this oft-repeated motion.

And if you’re in to marathon gaming sessions, the controller’s massive 1200mAh battery lasted several days before it needed to be charged. Not that I minded charging it, as the premium dock that came with the controller sit neatly on my desk and provided a perfect resting place for the controller any time I wasn’t playing.

What I didn’t like about the GameSir G7 Pro Controller

Designed for Xbox, best on PC

Ths GameSir G7 Pro is so jam-packed with features that it’s hard to find much to dislike here. Though the price is a little steep when compared to other GameSir controllers, at $80 the controller still provides a good value for those who are looking specifically for an Xbox-compatible controller that still works on PC.

And speaking of PC, even though this controller specifically touts its Xbox compatibility, I think the PC is where the G7 Pro honestly gets its best chance to shine. The added gyroscope functionality and higher polling rate are all PC-exclusive features, and make this a great choice for those who are looking for a high-performance controller on this platform specifically, and its almost hard to recommend the controller as enthusiastically for Xbox gamers simply because it just has more features for PC.

It should also be noted that Xbox players are limited to wired mode with the G7 Pro. The 10-ft USB-C cable that is included with the controller should give gamers with small- or moderately-sized rooms plenty of space to play, but if you have a larger room, you may need a diffferent cable. The cord stretched easily across my office (where I play PC games) but unfortunately wasn’t long enough to reach across my living room (which is the largest room in my house), which is where I play console games. So, if you are primarily an Xbox gamer, this is one limitation worth keeping in mind.

A serious controller that might not be for everyone

When shopping for a new controller, it is important to consider your own use. This premium controller has a lot of features that will appeal to those who demand the utmost performance from their controller with premium TMR sticks, a high polling rate on PC, impressive customization options, and a solid dock that looks great on any desk. This controller is clearly built with gamers operating at the highest level of performance in mind, and if you’re looking for a controller that will keep up with you in high-pressure games like Overwatch or Counter-Strike, the GameSir G7 Pro is up to the task and definitely worth its $80 price tag, especially on PC.

However, if you are a more moderate or even casual gamer, it might be worth checking out the original G7 if you’re playing on Xbox, or the Cyclone 2 if you’re a PC player, as both of these controllers still offer premium features, but at a much lower price point.
