I’ve read hundreds of thousands of resumes and most are bloated BS. Here’s how to make your resume more concise and powerful.
Another Stupid Resume Mistake
As someone who did recruiting for a long time, I’ve read hundreds of thousands of résumés, and one thing I learned pretty quickly: people don’t know how to write them.
Now, one of the mistakes people make is that they’re way too long, way too fluffy, too much BS in their resume, and the result winds up being they’re too long, too many words, too little power. Less is more in résumés, and AI can help you with this.
Now you can do this in one of two ways. And the first way is is the easy way, which is upload your resume to to the model of your choice, and then from there— by the way, take out your contact information, it doesn’t need that— upload the rest of your resume to the model, and then from there say, “I’d like you to make this resume more concise. Deliver this in a page and a half, two pages, no more than two pages. If it’s already two pages, make it a page to a page and a quarter.”
And then wait for the results. From there, you’re going to need to edit it because it’s never going to be perfect, but it’s going to be a lot more concise.
Another way to do it is to go section by section, job by job of your resume and ask for AI to make it more concise for you. Truthfully, this is the best way to do it because you can see how it responds section by section and then teach it how to follow up.
AI can be a fabulous tool to make your resume more concise and thus more powerful and effective.
