In what could be seen as an attempt to turn things around this quarter, Tesla has recently launched its more affordable Long Range Cybertruck model and refreshed Model Y in the US, likely hoping consumers will be drawn to their lower prices. The new entry-level Cybertruck model is priced at $69,990, while the refreshed Model Y is available for $49,990, before federal tax incentives.
However, both vehicles come with compromises compared to their launch editions and other available trims, which explains their lower price point.

The biggest difference between the new entry-level Long Range Cybertruck model and the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model is that it features a single rear-wheel-drive (RWD) motor, in contrast to the two motors in the AWD model. The towing capacity of the Long Range Cybertruck is 7,500lbs, significantly lower than the 11,000lbs tow limit of the other models. Additionally, the Long Range Cybertruck does not come with a powered roll-up hard tonneau cover for the truck’s bed. However, a soft tonneau cover can be purchased for $750, which Tesla claims offers “enhanced aerodynamics” and extends the truck’s range by up to 12 miles.

Speaking of range, this is the most significant advantage of the new Cybertruck model when compared to the other available trims. The Long Range Cybertruck can achieve up to 350 miles of range, which is 25 miles more than the AWD model and 49 miles longer than the Cyberbeast trim. With the addition of the soft tonneau cover, you could theoretically achieve up to 362 miles of range.
Another area where the Long Range Cybertruck makes compromises is in acceleration. It can go from 0 to 60mph in 6.2-seconds, which is slower than the 4.1-second acceleration of the AWD model and the 2.6-second acceleration of the Cyberbeast. The Long Range Cybertruck starts at $69,990, which is $10,000 less than the $79,990 AWD model and $30,000 cheaper than the $99,990 Cyberbeast trim.
