Sarah J. Maas: Why ACOTAR TV Show, Movies Paused

‘Fourth Wing’ Author Rebecca Yarros Teases “Amazing” TV Adaptation Amid ‘Onyx Storm’ Release

Sarah J. Maas has put her ACOTAR show back on the shelf.

The best-selling author shared that the TV adaptation of her A Court of Thorns and Roses series has been put on pause following creative differences, and she’s now prioritizing finishing the franchise’s remaining books.

“Right now, my focus is on books,” Sarah told host Alex Cooper during a March 4 appearance on her Call Her Daddy podcast. “It’s been a little while since you guys have had something, so I’m focusing on that.”

But that doesn’t mean she’s not thinking about the TV project at all. In fact, the Crescent City writer revealed that she recently was able to buy back the rights to all her novels so that she can have more control over the ACOTAR adaptation when she’s ready to turn her attention to the medium.

“Any TV movie adaptation is kind of like another facet of the worlds that I’ve created, and it’s something that I want to be in charge of—I want to be figuring out,” Sarah explained. “I want to be learning everything that I can. I’m a type A, like, control freak a little bit. I want to know everything about how it gets made—not because of that control but just because I love movies. I love TV.”
