Japanese retailer MUJI and its experimental subbrand MUJI Labo have reimagined one of the most timeless staples: the paper bag. It is made for the Spring/Summer 2025 seasonal collection with paper-like tote bags that are crafted from a washi paper blend. It feels like paper but functions as fabric, as it can age well with time and use.
Visually, it looks delicate, but it is made to last. It blends practicality with a nod to traditional Japanese artisanal roots. The bags are made from a blend of wash paper and polyester, with another version: washi and organic cotton. The use of washi paper, which is a renewable material crafted from fibers including kozo, which is a mulberry bark — it gives the capsule an authentic look and feel.
