Members from the Nike Innovation team worked on the After Dark Tour necklace and race metal at the factory in Bassano del Grappa. The group of women wanted to reimagine race jewelry by creating a piece that is not only beautiful but also durable and can move around performance elements. The team was comprised of designers and engineers, ensuring that all of the details were refined.
Operations analyst Kendal Bagby noted, “You can’t have a Nike product without performance at its core. So we kept asking: How can we make even the smallest elements more performance-oriented?” The surface texture of the pendant has contours that are made from elevation data from After Dark Tour race courses. Lead Computational designer, Srah Hammond adds, “We extracted elevation data from the six different race locations. The ripples on the pendant represent the topography of the course tracks, symbolizing the journey that runners take to reach the finish line.”
