Irish design firm A2 Architects has just completed the design of the Gate Lodge. Located in Navan, Ireland, the home is defined by a minimal white form and pyramidal roof in a red corrugated metal material. It was inspired by the historic lodge buildings that were in the area before.
Director of the firm, Peter Caroll speaks about the design notion, “Taking its cue from local lodge typologies, its formal simplicity drives both external and internal spaces. Thorough research of existing gate lodges in the county identified many of a singular form with corrugated and slated pyramidal roofs.” The corners of the home’s square sections are cut to form four sheltered terraces — three which can be functional as entrances.
