The RUF CTR1 ‘Redbird’ is a one-off 1989 Lightweight scheduled for auction during Monterey Car Week by RM Sotheby’s. Finished in a custom Bordeaux Red—making it the only CTR1 ever painted in this shade—it was personally driven by engineer Alois Ruf and now carries an estimated value between $4.5 and $5 million.
One of only six Lightweight variants ever built, the car features a matching-numbers twin-turbo 3.4L flat-six, custom telemetry, heated glass, power windows, and weight-saving materials throughout. Meticulously preserved and with low mileage, the Redbird is known for surpassing period supercars like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 in performance. With its rarity, history, and analog driving pedigree, the RUF CTR1 ‘Redbird’ stands as a singular opportunity for collectors seeking a pure expression of high-speed engineering heritage.
