Philippines Star, Dead at 27

One star’s light has dimmed too soon.

Misua—a drag queen who was competing in the fourth season of Drag Race: Philippines—has died, production company World of Wonder confirmed. She was 27.

“We are heartbroken to share that Misua, a talented Queen set to appear on season four of Drag Race Philippines passed away in her sleep the morning of April 2,” World of Wonder wrote on social media April 2. “She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed.”

The company confirmed filming on the Drag Race season—which had not yet publicly announced its cast of queens—had been paused, and that it was in contact with Misua’s family.

“Our thoughts,” the statement added of the star, born Jayson Elvie Ty, “are with her family, friends, and all who loved her.”

According to Variety, Misua’s family shared a tribute to Facebook, writing, “Jayson was our dearly loved son, brother, friend, mentor, and most of all, Jayson is a star. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and close friends.”
