The Philadelphia Eagles have added Andy Dalton to the quarterback room, trading to bring the Carolina Panthers backup to the NFC East.
The 38-year-old will support Jalen Hurts in the 2026 campaign, with the Eagles sending a 2027 7th-round pick to the Panthers to get him.
Dalton had been in Carolina for three seasons, most recently backing up the team’s 2024 No. 1 Draft pick Bryce Young at quarterback. And after a rocky start to his NFL career, Young looks like he has found his feet as the starting quarterback.
It remains to be seen how Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni will order his quarterback room behind Hurts – he also has Tanner McKee at his disposal, as things stand. It’s not out of the question that he could now be traded.
The Eagles went into the 2025 campaign as Super Bowl champions but lost in the NFC Wild Card round 23-19 to the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field.
Dalton is best known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, who picked him in the second round of the 2011 Draft.

Jalen Hurts will welcome a new quarterback to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2026 season

Andy Dalton was traded to Philadelphia by the Carolina Panthers for a 2027 7th-round pick
Dalton made three Pro Bowls during his first nine seasons in Cincinnati. He has also played for the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.
He is 84-83-2 as a starter but was primarily a backup in Carolina. He has thrown for 39,763 yards, 254 touchdowns with 151 interceptions and an 87.5 passer rating in 15 seasons.
Hurts has started all but seven games over the past five seasons. A few of those games missed were due to Philadelphia already having clinched a playoff seed.
Hurts was the MVP in a Super Bowl victory over Kansas City in the 2024 season.
It was reported earlier this week that the new NFL season will start on Wednesday for just the second time in 75 years.
That game will be held by Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks, with the Australia NFL game between Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers then being played on the traditional Thursday slot.
