The Origami series has been designed by Mark Goudy as a series of ceramics that pay homage to the traditional craft of origami in a way that prioritizes its delicate nature, but also its inherent sense of artistic beauty. The collection consists of porcelain sculptures that appear as though they have been folded out of paper to make them quite delicate yet perplexing. Goudy utilizes algorithmic design in his process in order to achieve the intricate folds, while also increasing the character through elliptic, sine, parabolic and cosine curves.
The Origami series is achieved by having Goudy’s digital designs 3D printed to create molds before moving onto plastic casts and slip casts. The final result is a series of decor pieces that are inherently tactile and as thin as paper.
