Long, long ago, in 2024, Nyjah Huston won an Olympic bronze medal in men’s street skateboarding.
His medal went from this:
As he put it, “Medal looking like it went to war and back.”
Soo, we’ve got a new medal issue for the 2026 games.
Alyssa Liu’s team gold medal.
People on social media are also pointing out that it looks kind of chipped, too.
Breezy Johnson won gold in women’s downhill.
Yeah, that fell apart too.
She said it happened when she was jumping up and down in excitement.
Breezy also pointed out that the little connector part seemed to be the problem.
And it happened to German biathlete Justus Strelow while celebrating his bronze medal win. You can watch that video here.
Olympic spokesperson Luca Cassasa told reporters they found a solution for the problem: “Following reports of issues affecting a small number of medals, the organising committee immediately reviewed the matter, working closely with the State Mint, which produced the medals. A solution has been identified, and a targeted fix has been put in place. Athletes whose medals have been affected are encouraged to return them through the appropriate channels so that they can be promptly repaired and returned.”
I guess you gotta testdrive these things out next time!!
