By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”
– Theodore Roosevelt, 26th president of the United States
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics released its report about new jobs created was +139000. Higher than anticipated but lower than what was occurring in the last year of the Biden Administration. The difference is not tariffs or anything else you may be fed. It is because government hiring has stopped. When I would read these reports in the past, it was common to see +40000 or so government jobs. Add those in, and the report is +179000. In fact there was -22000 government jobs.
Healthcare jobs increased by 62000, leisure and hospitality was $48000, and social services was +16000. Add it up, and we are at 126000 of the 139000 new jobs. Leisure and hospitality was +30000 for restaurants and drinking establishments, which means the rest may be camp counselors. It also means LinkedIn users continue to find it difficult to find work.
My current services are designed to help people find their next role more quickly than they might otherwise. Whether it is the information I freely share here or elsewhere, the video courses, books and guides I offer inexpensively, the podcast I continue to deliver (launched in November 2010, No BS Job Search Advice Radio has more than 3000 episodes), my YouTube channel, the course presentations I do, or the coaching I continue to do, people need help with finding work and succeeding at it.
People need help. The layoff notices are still coming through the feed. I encourage you to do something simple. Share their posts to your feed without expectation. Share mine for the information may help someone turn a corner and help them land. Subscribe if you haven’t already. Click the like button. Comment. Do things to help others in need of finding work like tagging people you know when you see a job that may fit them.

The skills needed to find a job are different from those needed to do a job. You may be great at what you do, but job hunting, especially during difficult times is very different than being a good employee.
