NFL fans left divided as team replace historic logo with ‘boring’ new design as part of franchise rebrand

The Tennessee Titans have officially entered a new era, unveiling a new identity that has sparked a fierce debate across the NFL landscape.

The complete franchise rebrand marks the biggest aesthetic shift for the organization since it transitioned from the Tennessee Oilers over 25 years ago.

While the new look pays homage to an iconic era in Houston, it also incorporates elements designed to celebrate the team’s three-decade legacy in Nashville.

‘We wanted to come up with something that took the best parts of all of that and bring it together in a way that makes sense,’ Titans President Burke Nihill said in a statement.

The redesign coincides with a total organizational overhaul, featuring a new stadium on the horizon and first-year head coach Robert Saleh taking the reins.

It also signals a fresh start for young quarterback Cam Ward, who modeled the new threads as the team looks to build a dynasty around their 2025 No. 1 overall pick.

The most jarring change is the retirement of the ‘flaming thumbtack’ logo, which is replaced by a minimalist white ‘T’ inside a Titans blue circle.

This new mark removes the fireballs and swords of the past, opting instead for a clean design that features three white stars representing the divisions of Tennessee.

The new design, however, has split opinion among fans with some arguing that they shouldn’t have ditched the previous logo.

Taking to X, one fan wrote: ‘I like it but bad move getting rid of the flame w the logo’.

Similarly, another fan said: ‘Uniforms are good enough but the logo is a downgrade’.

One disgruntled fan even compared it to Jaguar’s ‘woke’ rebrand, which saw sales at Jaguar Europe fall a staggering 97.5 per cent just months later.

‘It’s more of an evolution of the best of who we’ve always been,’ Nihill explained, adding that the old logos will now transition into being ‘some of the best retro logos in sports.’

The uniforms themselves lean heavily into a unique ‘Titans blue,’ a shade the team found was overwhelmingly popular through fan surveys and throwback jersey sales.

In a move to stand out from the seven other NFL teams wearing navy, the Titans are making this lighter blue their primary home identity paired with white pants.

‘Titans blue is a really bold color, a really powerful color,’ said Erin Swartz, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing. ‘We wanted to give fans that tool to kind of stand out.’

Nashville’s influence is stitched into the fabric – literally – with a ‘6-string stripe’ appearing on the pants, sleeves, and helmets as a nod to Music City’s guitar culture.
