One thing I know is that doing a resume dump to an executive search firm is what amateurs do. The right introduction matters.
Being Flown in for an Interview? The 7 Keys to Succeeding
Not all recruiters are created equal. As an executive, as someone in the C-suite, you’re dealing with retained executive recruiting firms, not contingency firms. Navigating a C-suite transition requires that you take a targeted approach to executive recruiters. And at this level, retained search firms with industry experience are going to be key to you.
By identifying top firms and connecting with senior partners, especially through warm introductions, you can ensure your profile reaches the right decision makers if they’re clients. Make a list of the top 10, maybe 15 firms in your space, and find someone in your network who can introduce you to them directly.
Alternatively, look for senior partners who specialize in your function and industry. Reach out with a short message introducing your background and ideal next steps. Don’t do a resume dump, you know, they’re just going to hit delete. It’s going to be a waste of your time and theirs.
