Though Netflix has had plenty of new movies and series to watch in March, horror fans are getting a treat right before the end of the month that is poised to be the next viral hit from the streamer: The provocatively-titled Something Bad is Going to Happen.
Executive produced by The Duffer Brothers of Stranger Things fame and created by Haley Z. Boston of Brand New Cherry Flavor, this 8-episode series follows a seemingly happy couple as they get ready to tie the knot in a seemingly idyllic cabin in the woods, surrounded by family. However, things quickly spiral out of control as dark, supernatural secrets are unearthed that give new meaning to the iconic “till death do us part” vow.
What is Something Very Bad is Going to Happen about?
The terror of tying the knot
If you were wondering what you’re in for with Something Bad is Going to Happen, you don’t need to look much further than the series’ ominous title. Main character Rachel (Camila Morrone), is ready to say “I Do” to her long-time boyfriend Nicky (Adam DiMarco) and agrees that a small, intimate ceremony at his family’s vacation cabin would be the best place to start their new lives together. The only rub? Rachael has never met Nicky’s family before, and once she does, strange, violent things begin happening that threaten more than just her upcoming nuptials.
Though the series is primarily a horror/psychological thriller, it also has a strong social commentary element that feels very modern, similar to 2023’s The Fall of the House of Usher.
So far, the series has very good reviews, holding an 81% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In their 9/10 review, ScreenRant specifically praises the series’ “stomach-churning gore,” and says that “Something Very Bad is Going to Happen will go down in history as one of the best Netflix horror shows of all time.”
Will there be a season 2 of Something Very Bad is Going to Happen?
This story ends fairly definitively, but anything can happen
By the end of Something Very Bad is Going to Happen’s 8-episodes, viewers will know exactly what happens to Rachel, Nicky, and their extended families. However, even though the ending for this family is definitive, this series could very easily live on in an anthology format if Netflix wants to pursue a second season. Given that early word of mouth is extremely positive, we wouldn’t be surprised if the streamer goes this route. However, as of right now, nothing has been announced.
