It’s been just over a year since Netflix last raised its prices in the US, and now the streaming giant is at it again.
Netflix has quietly increased the price for all three of its subscription tiers: Standard with ads, Standard, and Premium. Depending on your plan, you might see a $1 to $2 increase per month.
Here’s how the new pricing breaks down:
- Standard with ads: $8 per month (up from $7)
- Standard: $20 per month (up from $18)
- Premium: $27 per month (up from $25)
Netflix hasn’t announced these new prices in any press release or statement yet, but the new pricing is already live on its official plans and pricing support page. It’s unclear when these new prices will take effect for current subscribers, but they are already in place for new subscribers when you visit Netflix’s website in the US.
Pocket-lint reached out to Netflix support to ask when the price increase would take effect for new subscribers, but was not given a specific date. A Netflix customer service representative explained that price hikes at Netflix usually occur in “two phases,” and that new subscribers are generally offered a “grace period.” As of now, it remains unclear how long that grace period will last.

Streaming continues to get more expensive
Remember when streaming was cheap?
This isn’t the first streaming price hike we’ve seen this year, and it probably won’t be the last.
Earlier this month, Amazon announced it was raising the price of its ad-free Prime Video tier, rebranding it as “Prime Video Ultra” and bumping it up to $5 a month, from $2.
And late last year, a wave of price increases hit other services, too. HBO Max raised prices by $1 to $2 per month, depending on the plan, with its ad-free tier now starting at $11 a month, its Standard ad-free plan at $18.50 per month, and its Premium plan at $23 per month. Disney+ also increased prices in September, with its ad-supported plan climbing by $2 to $12 per month and its Premium plan jumping by $3 to $19 per month.
With Netflix’s latest price hike in the US, watching without ads now costs $20 a month, and that doesn’t even include 4K streaming. If you want that, you’ll need the Premium plan, which now costs a staggering $27 a month. That’s a big jump from a decade ago, when 4K streaming on Netflix cost just $12 per month.
Beyond its recent price increase, Netflix has had quite a tumultuous last few months. In December, it announced a deal to acquire Warner Bros. for $82.7 billion. However, after facing competition from Paramount Skydance, Netflix withdrew from the deal, and Paramount Skydance eventually agreed to acquire Warner Bros. for $110 billion.
