EXCLUSIVE: Neal Street, the production outfit behind Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies, is expanding in TV and theater with a pair of newly-created development roles.
Ed Cripps, a former development chief at The Crown producer Left Bank, joins as Development Producer while Will Mortimer takes on the role of Theatre and TV Executive.
Cripps is charged with growing Neal Street’s pipeline of scripted TV projects while Mortimer will work across the company’s theater and TV development teams, supporting the development of new stage projects alongside Theatre Producer Georgia Gatti.
Cripps was previously running development at The Crown maker Left Bank, which has been behind the likes of Dear England of late. He left late last year and his role at Left Bank has not yet been replaced. Mortimer was working for the Bridge Theatre.
In TV, All3Media-owned Neal Street makes hit BBC returner Call the Midwife but hasn’t landed a big greenlight for a little while. Other credits include Informer, Britannia and HBO’s The Franchise. In movies, the indie is prepping Mendes’ The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event and was a co-producer on Oscar winner Hamnet. The team was also behind BAFTA-nommed World War Two doc feature What They Found.
Mendes runs Neal Street with Pippa Harris, Caro Newling, and Nicolas Brown.
“Both Ed and Will have impeccable taste and terrific relationships with writing talent. We are thrilled to welcome them to Neal Street to grow our slate and deepen the links across our screen and stage work,” said Brown.
