Moment terrified passengers hold their hands up as armed officers deplane travelers after alarm tone triggers threat alert

Intense video showed terrified passengers aboard a Southwest flight that was forced to land after a security alert.

Southwest Airlines Flight 2094, bound for Fort Lauderdale from Nashville, was abruptly diverted Friday night to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The ordeal was triggered by a passenger initially described as a ‘possible security matter,’ though the airline later said it was a ‘misunderstanding.’

Sources later told NBC News the incident involved a passenger who had set a phone timer to remind him to pray during Ramadan, the ninth and holiest month in the Islamic calendar.

A TikTok video from inside the plane captured the panic among passengers, who were seen leaning forward with their hands raised as they were ordered to stay seated.

Multiple police cars swarmed the aircraft as the video panned to the window, showing red and blue lights flashing outside.

As cop cars surrounded the plane, a flight attendant was heard over the speaker trying to calm passengers and assure them everything was fine.

‘As you guys can see we do have vehicles rolling up to the side of the aircraft,’ the attendant is heard in the video.

He is then heard giving passengers instructions to deplane, telling them not to rush to the front and to exit row by row.

‘Again, do not bring any other belongings other than what you have on your person,’ he warned.

Following the safe landing in Georgia just after 9pm, officers from the Atlanta Police Department removed the passenger from the plane.

Another passenger’s video from a different angle showed a line of men in tactical gear rushing down the aisle, forcibly removing a man in a red shirt from his seat while three officers handcuffed him.

A spokesperson for the FBI in Atlanta told the Daily Mail: ‘The FBI and APD investigated and interviewed the passengers early Saturday morning.

‘There was no credible threat and no charges will be filed,’ they said.

In a statement to NBC, Southwest Airlines said they ‘made the decision to divert to Atlanta out of an abundance of caution due to what turned out to be a misunderstanding of a customer’s behavior.’

They apologized for the misunderstanding and delay, and emphasized that nothing is more important than safety.

Daily Mail reached out to Southwest Airlines for further comment.

This incident follows escalating tensions in the Middle East, starting with a deadly joint US-Israeli military operation against Iran.

The strikes killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting Tehran to launch relentless retaliatory missile and drone attacks on US military bases across the Gulf region.
