BALERA, the latest project from STUDIOTAMAT in collaboration with ceramicist Arianna De Luca and manufacturer Ninefifty, represents a thoughtful exploration of mid-century Italian design. This second installment of the OFFTAMAT exhibition series transforms a compact Rome storefront into an immersive showcase where ceramic tiles and lighting merge into a cohesive visual language.
The collection draws inspiration from 1960s Italian ballroom culture, particularly the experimental architecture of Dante Bini. STUDIOTAMAT, Arianna De Luca, and Ninefifty translated this heritage into modular terracotta tiles and complementary wall lamps that balance nostalgia with modern sensibilities. Each piece demonstrates meticulous attention to materiality, with hand-glazed surfaces produced through Ninefifty’s artisanal techniques.
The BALERA projject’s lies in its collaborative nature — Arianna De Luca’s bold Mediterranean aesthetic harmonizes with STUDIOTAMAT’s precise geometric approach, while Ninefifty’s manufacturing expertise elevates the designs into tactile reality.
