It followed over a year of speculation that all was not well between Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, and his parents and brothers: David and Victoria Beckham, and Romeo and Cruz.
I am sure that you are well aware of what went down by now, and you can read a full breakdown of the entire feud here. Basically, Brooklyn made a whole heap of allegations against his family in the statement — essentially claiming that they have been trying to ruin his and Nicola’s relationship for years. He also said that he has struggled with “Brand Beckham” coming first his entire life, and that growing up in the spotlight left him with overwhelming anxiety.
Brooklyn also addressed long-running rumors surrounding his and Nicola’s 2022 wedding day, which is when it first became clear that all was not well between the two camps. Shortly after the April nuptials, sources claimed that Nicola had been left upset after Victoria stole the show and Beckham family friend, Marc Anthony, gave a gushing speech about her.
At the time, Victoria was accused of taking over Nicola and Brooklyn’s first dance, which was to a song performed by Marc. A source told the Daily Mail: “Nicola left the room because she and Brooklyn thought Marc was introducing them for a special dance to a love song the couple had chosen, but without any warning and at the request of Victoria, Marc switched it to a mother-son dance using the same song.”
These claims were given a breath of fresh air just last year, when another insider told People: “Marc Anthony, who is a friend of the Beckhams, offered to perform as a gift at the wedding. Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, ‘The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on up…Victoria Beckham!'”
They went on to add that Nicola felt like Victoria “ruined her wedding, and couldn’t understand why,” with a second source telling the publication: “It was such a jaw-dropping moment that it left the whole room in absolute shock — you could hear a pin drop.” Victoria was said to have started slow dancing with Brooklyn, and everyone then saw “Nicola run from the room crying.”
And Brooklyn confirmed all of this in his statement, where he sensationally wrote: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.” He also referenced that he and Nicola renewed their wedding vows in August 2025, with — notably — only Nicola’s family present. Brooklyn said: “We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
Unsurprisingly, Brooklyn’s choice of words caused a pretty big stir across social media, with many left curious about what dancing “very inappropriately on” meant. It sparked a whole ton of memes and joke tweets, and youngest Beckham boy Cruz suggested that he could see the funny side of the very messy situation as he was caught liking some of these playful posts.
Eventually, Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding DJ, Fat Tony, came forward to share his insight into what went down between Victoria and Brooklyn on the dance floor, saying during an appearance on British daytime show This Morning that the moment in question impacted the rest of the weekend.
Tony, who has been the Beckhams’ go-to DJ for their parties for several years now, started by saying: “I was the DJ at the wedding; it wasn’t a one-day wedding, it was a three-day wedding. I did the welcome party, then I did the wedding, and then I did the brunch on the Sunday, which was the most awkward part of it all because everything that had gone on on the actual wedding night was discussed amongst all the guests the next morning.”
“Why I’m here is to talk about the word ‘inappropriate,’” Tony continued. “There was no slut dropping, there was no black PVC catsuit, there was no Spice Girls action… I said it was inappropriate as well because, at the time, it was the timing.”
“Basically, Marc Anthony was performing on stage, he then called Brooklyn onto stage. Brooklyn went onto the stage, everyone’s expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance, and then he, Marc Anthony, asks the most beautifulest woman in the room to come to the stage, and then he says: ‘Victoria, come up to the stage,’” he explained. “So, Victoria is by the stage, she goes onto the stage, and at this point Brooklyn’s suddenly literally devastated because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife.”
“Then Nicola leaves the room, crying her eyes out,” Tony went on. “Brooklyn’s stuck there on stage, and then they do this dance and Marc Anthony is like: ‘Go put your hands on your mother’s hips,’ it was a Latin, you know? It’s a Latin thing, and the whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room. I’ve done an awful lot of Beckham parties in the past, and they’re a very dancy, close-knit family. They love to dance, right? This is all about how Brooklyn feels. If he felt it was inappropriate and awkward, then it was inappropriate.”
At this point, host Alison Hammond asked the question that had been on a lot of people’s lips as she argued: “Why is Victoria getting blamed when it was Marc Anthony who put her in that situation and was egging it on as he went through the dance?”
And now, Marc has finally broken his silence on the drama that he has unwittingly found himself at the center of, insisting that what the public knows is “hardly the truth.”
Marc was asked if he had “anything to say about being pulled into that situation” during a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, and Marc was keen to highlight his close relationship with the Beckhams.
“I have nothing to say about what’s happening with the family,” he said. “They’re a wonderful, wonderful family. I’ve known them since before the kids were born. I’m godfather to Cruz. I’m really close to the family.”
“But I have nothing to say about what happened there,” Marc added. “It’s extremely unfortunate how it’s playing out — but [how it’s playing out] is hardly the truth.”
For what it’s worth, the Beckhams have shown that there are no hard feelings between them and Marc amid the drama, with David recently seen commenting on his wife Nadia Ferreira’s Instagram post announcing that she and Marc were expecting their second child together. David wrote at the time: “Soooooo excited ❤️ @marcanthony @nadiaferreira ❤️”
None of the Beckhams have directly addressed Brooklyn’s statement since it was posted last month, although Cruz did raise eyebrows when he shared a telltale TikTok shortly after the whole thing went down. Neither Brooklyn nor Nicola have said anything further either, and we will be sure to keep you posted on any further updates. Meanwhile, can watch Tony’s full This Morning interview below:
