Malcolm in the Middle Reunion: Frankie Muniz Shares 1st Look

Malcolm in the Middle is back, and star Frankie Muniz is giving fans a peek at what’s going on behind the scenes.

On Tuesday April 22, Muniz, 39, shared a photo of himself with his Malcolm in the Middle parents, played by actors Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, on X. “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!” he captioned the snap.

The photo is the first that’s been shared from the set of the upcoming revival, which is planned as a limited-run, four-episode series on Disney+. The show will follow Malcolm as he navigates fatherhood and his parent’s 40th wedding anniversary.

When the new series debuts, one member of the family will look a little different: Malcolm’s younger brother Dewey, who was originally played by Erik Per Sullivan. The actor retired from Hollywood in 2010 and has been recast for the upcoming revival.

Per Sullivan’s absence from the new series isn’t unexpected. He hasn’t participated in any of the show’s reunions. In 2024, Kaczmarek, 69, was asked about his retirement and her answer was very honest. “I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world. It’s not for everyone,” she explained.

Disney+ announced Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will take over the role in March.

Muniz, Kaczmarek and Cranston, 69, as well as original cast members Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, will all reprise their roles. The group will be joined by Kiana Madeira, Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murrae and Keeley Karsten.

“Twenty-five years since we premiered Malcolm in the Middle. I’m so excited… that I may have peed just a little bit,” Cranston and Kaczmarek said in a December 2024 announcement post. “What a delight that I get to yell at that kid again! We’re very, very excited about coming back together and seeing what this family has been up to.”

In October 2024, Muniz announced an entirely new career path for himself. “I’m extremely excited to announce that I will be racing full time next season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series,” Muniz shared during a Fox & Friends broadcast. “It’s a dream come true. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do,” he added. “I’m thrilled. I can’t wait.”

Frankie Muniz is telling fans that he’s “okay” after a scary multi-vehicle pile-up in his latest NASCAR race left him limping to an ambulance off the track. Muniz has been racing since 2004 but things got serious for him in 2023, when he racked up one top-five finish and 11 top-10 finishes in the ARCA Menards Series. He cited that success as part of the push to go pro.

“We had a lot of success last year,” Muniz said. “Making the leap up to the truck series is a whole other level. Thirty-six trucks start the race, and all 36 drivers are really, really good.”
