A fire has has broken out onboard a Virgin Australia plane as it prepared to land at Melbourne Airport.

Planes were put in a holding pattern above the airport about 4.30pm on Sunday.

It’s understood a large ’emergency response’ is underway with reports more than a dozen emergency vehicles were rushing to the airport.

It’s understood a vape exploded inside the plane’s cabin.

Melbourne Airport confirmed about 4.45pm that the Virgin Australia plane has landed safely as emergency crews meet it on the tarmac.
