Lewis Hamilton’s F1 movie takes home Oscar for Best Sound… but Ferrari star misses glitzy Hollywood show

Lewis Hamilton was unable to jet into Hollywood for the Oscars on Sunday night but his F1 movie still brought home an Academy Award for Best Sound.

The box office hit was nominated for four awards on Sunday evening, including Best Picture and Visual Effects.

The Ferrari driver, who is believed to be dating reality TV star Kardashian, co-produced and enjoyed a cameo role in the 2025 ‘F1’ movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris.

Since its release in June 2025, the has become the highest-grossing sports film, with its success at the box office seeing it gross over $630 million worldwide.

The awards have swiftly followed. It scooped up a Grammy last month when Chris Stapleton’s song ‘Bad As I Used To Be’ won, and also claimed a BAFTA for Best Sound.

It had chance to add to that haul with nominations in four categories at the Oscars. F1 missed out in the Best Picture, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects categories. But it triumphed in Best Sound, with Hamilton given a shout-out in the acceptance speech.

The 41-year-old driver was unable to join the cast and crew at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles because he had been competing in the Chinese Grand Prix.

Hamilton finished third in the race – the second of the year – behind winner Kimi Antonelli and fellow Briton George Russell, marking his first podium in the red of Ferrari at the 26th time of asking.

Shanghai, where this weekend’s race was being held, is a 12.5-hour flight from LA, making it impossible for him to arrive on time despite the 15-hour time zone difference.

Hamilton had said that he had explored ‘every way to get there in time’ but ultimately could not make the mad dash across the globe work.

Kardashian, one of the most famous celebrities in the world, attends the Oscars most years and was expected to do so again this weekend. But she was not pictured at the event on Sunday night.

If her rumored boyfriend wasn’t competing in China, they may have appeared on the red carpet together for the first time since news of their shock romance first emerged.

While neither party has confirmed it publicly, Hamilton and Kardashian, 45, are understood to have struck up a secret relationship behind the scenes.

Rumors surrounding the pair first began at the end of January, when they were pictured checking into upmarket hotel Estelle Manor in the Cotswolds together.

Hamilton and Kardashian were seen arriving with a motorcade in tow at the five-star establishment and whispers of a romance have been growing louder ever since.

In early February they attended the Super Bowl together at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where they were spotted looking cozy in the stands.
