Legal Team Blasts Tory Lanez for Deposition


Whew! Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team is reportedly not playing with Tory Lanez! Word on the court docs is that Meg’s lawyers successfully asked a judge to impose sanctions on Tory after he allegedly turned a legal deposition into a hot mess.

Tory Lanez Allegedly Derailed The Deposition

According to recently filed documents, first reported by legal correspondent Meghann Cuniff, Tory was out here being “disruptive” and “inflammatory” during a virtual deposition related to Megan The Stallion’s defamation case against a social media personality who her lawyers claim was acting “at the behest and command of” Tory himself.

Let’s get into this mess: Megan The Stallion’s team says Lanez showed zero respect for the legal process. In just 44 minutes on the record, he supposedly derailed the process in numerous ways. The singer allegedly pretended to not know words like “discuss” and “approve” and harassed Megan’s lawyer about her appearance. Also, he allegedly interrupted questioning to consult with his and the other defendant’s legal team. Not to mention, Lanez claimed that his video wasn’t working, though prison staff confirmed it was.

Megan’s team told the court it was all a big waste of time. On Thursday, Judge Cecilia Altonaga reportedly ordered Lanez to “explain why he shouldn’t face punishment” for his alleged actions during the deposition, per Billboard. “Daystar Peterson is ordered to show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court for violating the court’s order authorizing his deposition,” Judge Altonaga reportedly said.

Background On Megan Thee Stallion & Tory Lanez’ Legal Drama

In 2022, Lanez was convicted in the shooting case against Megan Thee Stallion and later sentenced to a decade in prison, per The Shade Room. Then, in December 2024, Megan Thee Stallion reportedly filed a request for a restraining order against Lanez.

“Even now, while behind bars, Mr. Peterson shows no signs of stopping. Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Ms. Pete, Mr. Peterson continues to subject her to repeated trauma and revictimization,” the petition asserted, per Page Six.

At the time, Megan’s team alleged Tory had paid bloggers to spread defamatory information about her online. However, Tory Lanez’s legal team pulled up with their own receipts and refuted the claims, per The Shade Room.

 “As for the Zelle transactions of $3,000, we must ask the public not to jump to conclusions. The legal process will not only address these matters, but prove 100% without a shadow of a doubt that they had nothing to do with Mr. Daystar Peterson or his case at all,” Ceasar McDowell said.

In January, Megan Thee Stallion was granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez, per The Shade Room. According to Variety, the rapper’s request for the order described Lanez as a “violent and dangerous individual.” The order also highlighted the need to protect her safety and well-being. Lastly, it was reported that the order would stand in effect until January 9, 2030.
