Duhamel has since attributed the breakdown of their marriage to their differing views of the world and Fergie being more comfortable in the spotlight than he ever was.

“It was just a lot,” the 53-year-old said on In Depth With Graham Bensinger in 2023. “I missed the simplicity of who I really am. I’m just not a guy who is comfortable doing red carpets, doing all the Hollywood stuff. I don’t hate it, I’m better at it now, but it just took me a long time to really feel like I belong, like I fit in. You know Hollywood and L.A., that whole lifestyle can suck the life out of you if you’re not careful.”

The Las Vegas alum did eventually move to Minnesota, telling E! News last year that, since he grew up in the woods of North Dakota, “to now be able to pass that on to my kids out there is great.”

While his day job was making movies and TV, he explained to People, “I’m really more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need in this world of massive technology, to do the basic things to provide for my family.”
