Johnny Depp Lent Home Amid ALS Battle

Eric Dane had one less thing to worry about amid his ALS battle thanks to Johnny Depp

After the Grey’s Anatomy star tragically died following his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), E! News has learned that the Pirates of the Caribbean star welcomed him to stay at one of his Los Angeles homes free of charge.

The gesture couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. In the final months of his illness—which slowly and drastically atrophies all of the muscles in the body—Dane was nearly completely debilitated, his friend and former Grey’s costar Patrick Dempsey explained just one day after his Feb. 19 death.

He was really starting to lose his ability to speak, he was bed-ridden and it was very hard for him to swallow,” Patrick shared in a Feb. 20 interview with Virgin Radio UK. “The quality of his life was deteriorating so rapidly.”

And while Dane had the support of his ex Rebecca Gayheart—with whom he remained extremely close following their 2017 separation—as well as his daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14, he was almost completely reliant on other people to survive in the final months of his life.
