Job searching can be incredibly stressful! Feeling the pressure? Dealing with rejections? It’s easy to get frustrated. But before you direct that frustration towards recruiters, watch this!
They Don’t Want Me to Tell You This
Recruiters get a bad rap. Many of them deserve it; a heck of a lot don’t. And I know job search is frustrating, but you don’t have to take it out on people who don’t deserve it. What are they there to do? You don’t pay them anything. They’re not there to get you a job. They’re hired by employers who pay them a lot of money to fill a job. Job search is frustrating enough, and ceven if the recruiter is incompetent, they may wind up being able to help you because they’re normally backstopped by competent people.
So when you get the junior person on the phone who’s happy and stupid, you don’t have to insult them. What you can do is try to impress them. Even if they’re a dope, the person behind them, the person who hired them, may be backstopping them to help them fill jobs. Now you may say, “Don’t put the dope on the phone with me”. Well, you also want to contacted by a lot of recruiters, and they don’t always have the time. So what they do is they hire people just like a company hires people to screen, to filter, to reject, to be honest with you, because your resume doesn’t always fit what they need. But they’re trying; they’re trying to fill a job, so they earn a living just like you’re trying to earn a living. Like I said, job search is frustrating enough; you don’t have to take it out on people who don’t deserve it.
