Weekend Warriors: It’s No Longer About Working Out
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Intermittently since the beginning of 2021, I have been polling people about whether they plan on working over the coming weekend.
My decidedly unscientific poll asked the question:
Are you planning to work this weekend?
Respondents were offered 3 possible answers– Yes, Maybe, No.
I expected to find that about one-third of respondents would say they were planning to do so.
The people I am connected to and who follow me are primarily white-collar workers and US-based. That may be because of many years, I did not accept connection requests from OUS because I only did US-based search work. A few years ago, I started to change that policy and accepted non-US requests. It is rare that I accept them from parts of Africa known for messaging about how a member of their non-existent national royalty or a member of their military leadership recently died and required assistance with their estate.
On average, I found that between 44% and 58% of respondents planned to vote during the upcoming weekend, greatly exceeding my expectation.
People reported running a networking meeting, software consulting, running a side business, and catching up with pending items.
Whatever they are doing, people are working more weekends than ever before.
