Influencer blasts men for NOT looking at her at the gym – as one of them fires back: ‘No one actually cares’

A woman working out at a Bali gym has been mercilessly mocked online after complaining that the men around her were deliberately not looking at her.

Strength coach Danica Kennedy posted a video showing her performing an exaggerated tiptoe-style exercise at a gym in Canggu, while three men behind her continued their own workouts without paying any attention to her.

Rather than their behaviour being viewed as normal gym etiquette, the clip was shared by the British woman to criticise the men, with claims made that she was being intentionally ignored and the men described as b*tches.

The video was captioned: ‘POV you are trying to open your toes but the gym bros are confused,’ with on-screen labels such as ‘flabbergasted’ and ‘side eyes’ added in reference to the men behind her.

However, it was said by many viewers that no-one could be seen looking at her at all.

‘That’s my point,’ Ms Kennedy replied in the comments. ‘Trying too hard not to look. I could feel the awkwardness.’

She later added: ‘Get me out of Canggu, the men are so b*tchy.’

The baffling video quickly gained traction online, even catching the attention of Joey Swoll, a popular American TikToker known for calling out poor gym behaviour.

‘This is absolutely ridiculous,’ Swoll said.

‘This woman isn’t upset because those men are staring at her. She’s actually upset that they’re not looking at her.

‘That’s right – she seems irritated because she thinks what she’s doing is so impressive everyone in the gym should be watching, to the point where she claims they were trying so hard not to look.’

Australian calisthenics coach Matt Butterworth, one of the men seen in the original clip, said he was stunned to learn he had been accused of deliberately making Ms Kennedy uncomfortable.

He said he was simply focused on his own workout.

‘She’s zooming in on my face while I’m minding my own business, mostly looking down,’ he said.

‘Apparently I was side eyeing her and intentionally not looking at her to make her feel awkward because she was doing some alternative workout for whatever reason.

‘I’m just very desensitised to unconventional training. Sorry I seemed disinterested, not intentional,’ he said.

Ms Kennedy responded: ‘The energy was so off. If I wasn’t strong in myself I would have left the gym floor.

‘I tried to make contact with you, to smile and congratulate your handstand practice but you were clearly going out of your way to not look my way.

‘We women pick up on everything.’

Mr Butterworth then clapped back: ‘I’m sorry but the level of entitlement here and reaching is a bit much.’

He has since said the entire episode highlighted how misleading social media content can be.

‘A lot of videos you see online are completely done for the algorithm and for views, and a lot of it can be totally fabricated,’ he said.

‘And the other thing people need to realise is that no one actually cares, everyone’s just there to work out.’

Daily Mail has reached out to Ms Kennedy.
