There’s a lot to like about Android Auto, such as the ability to use apps like Spotify or Google Maps seamlessly in your car, but one of its biggest drawbacks is that not every car supports wireless Android Auto. This means that in many vehicles, you still have to plug your phone in every time you get in to use it. It’s not the end of the world, but it can be annoying. It’s nice to just get in your car and have Android Auto automatically connect — no cable required.
Fortunately, there are solutions to this problem, with the easiest and cheapest option being a wireless Android Auto adapter. However, while there are many wireless Android Auto adapters available, only one is actually officially approved by Google: the Motorola MA1, which launched in 2022.
Despite launching four years ago, the Motorola MA1 remains popular, largely because it often on sale for $45, letting you add wireless Android Auto to your car without breaking the bank. But the big news is that, after all these years, it appears an update to the Motorola MA1 is finally on the way.
This news comes from a recent FCC listing spotted by Reddit user Electrical-Plum-751 (via 9to5Google), which points to “Meizhou Guo Wei Electronics,” the same company that made the MA1 under the Motorola brand, working on a new wireless Android Auto adapter, which the FCC’s official description calls the “Motorola MA2.”

The Motorola MA2 has some notable upgrades
There’s no launch date yet, though

Thanks to the FCC listing, we already know quite a bit about the Motorola MA2, as several photos were attached with it, which you can see above.
Notably, the photos reveal that the MA2 will include a detachable USB cable, addressing one of the MA1’s biggest shortcomings. Additionally, it appears the MA2 has both a USB-A and a USB-C port, which will make it compatible with a lot more cars, especially as newer models have begun adopting USB-C. There also appears to be a switch on the side of the MA2, but it’s unclear what it’s for.
As for when the Motorola MA2 could launch or how much it will cost, that is also unclear, as Motorola has yet to officially announce it. However, 9to5Google estimates it could release in April, given that the MA1 took 3 months to launch after its original FCC listing was posted. As for the price, since the MA1 launched at $90, there’s a strong possibility the MA2 could be available for around the same.
