I was recently sent the Sol5 bi-colour LED light for mobile from Harlowe. Such a terrific little light designed to attach to a MagSafe phone case for video light. It’s small and portable, but I thought, there are some other uses for it too. So, I set up a simple still life and put the Sol5 through its paces. Let’s have a look.

How I got the photo: Setting the scene
I placed a timber-look backdrop on an old table and placed a black V-flat as the background. I staged my scene with a simple white ceramic vase, some painted shabby chic books, a cast iron bird, some cream-colored cheesecloth and those stunning yellow blossoms.
For the lighting, I used the Sol5 by Harlowe on full power and positioned it on some boxes for height. I positioned the light a little to the right and angled at 45 degrees from the subject. No reflector or natural light. Being so small, I could also easily pick this light up and hand-hold it when required. A small diffuser can also help.
How I got the photo: Camera gear and settings
I did a few different angles and up close images as well as more of an overall view. This allowed me to create the diptych banner at the top. You can check out the full Product Review here.
Granted, it’s super dark and moody, but then I like that look anyway. What do you think?
