Nicholas Potts Studio reimagined a watergate pied-à-terre by merging two dated apartments into a single, sculptural retreat that honors the Watergate’s mid-century legacy. Awkward colonial details were stripped away to reveal the unit’s original architecture, curved sightlines, flowing volumes, and generous windows overlooking the Potomac. Potts introduced high-impact materials like bookmatched okoume paneling, Verde Antigua marble, and softly backlit onyx walls, crafting a space that balances restraint with visual drama.

Each room unfolds through curved thresholds and softly illuminated transitions, allowing the interiors to feel both cinematic and grounded. Bespoke details, vintage brass lighting, lilac marble baths, and custom metalwork—add tactile richness without overpowering the flow. The result is a pied-à-terre that reads as both livable and elevated, where heritage and modernity quietly reinforce each other through shape, texture, and tone.
