Harrowing moment high school hockey players flee for their lives during game in Pawtucket as gunman opens fire and kills 2 spectators

Shocking video shows the moment high school hockey players were forced to flee for their lives after a gunman opened fire at an ice rink in Rhode Island on Monday, killing two people.

A livestream of the game circulating on social media showed players starting to duck down on the sidelines after about six shots rang out, while others who were on the ice scrambled to reach the sidelines and get to safety at the Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, about 10 minutes outside of Providence.

After a total of about a dozen shots were fired, some hockey players were also seen jumping onto the ice and racing to the back of the rink, while spectators could be heard screaming and crying.

Two spectators were killed in the tragedy, in what authorities are now saying stemmed from a ‘family dispute.’

Three others were also rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Hockey players on the ice were not harmed as the shooting occurred in the stands near spectators.

Police said that the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after raining bullets in the arena. Authorities are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

One hockey player described the chaos he felt when the gunman opened fire in the middle of the match in an interview with WJAR.
