Green Party is reported to the counter terror police over ‘anti-Zionist’ elements as fears grow ‘it is becoming a breeding ground for extremists’

The Green Party has been reported to counter-terrorism police by an internal whistleblower.

Fears are growing that the party is becoming a breeding-ground for anti-Jewish extremists.

Hard-Left activists have joined the Greens in recent months in protest at Labour’s stance on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

But a push by pro-Palestine Greens to declare the party ‘anti-Zionist’ has horrified many existing members, who fear extremism, sectarianism and anti-Semitism are being tolerated under Zack Polanski’s leadership.

The Daily Mail can reveal that one member has taken the dramatic step of reporting their party to counter-terror police, after groups in the party called for anyone seeking a Jewish state in Palestine to be branded racist.

Backed by the Greens For Palestine group, the ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion calls for the party to declare itself ‘anti-Zionist’ and for the ‘de-proscription of Palestine Action’, but rejects accusations that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitic.

The motion, backed by the party’s deputy leader Mothin Ali, effectively calls for Israel to be replaced by a ‘single democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital’.

A campaign poster for the motion depicts a map of the state of Israel painted in the colours of the Palestinian flag.

The motion also calls for the release of all ‘political prisoners’, including Marwan Barghouti, who was convicted in Israel of five murders and is accused of being the head of the notorious al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades.

The ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion, which has already gathered more than 300 supporters, now looks set to be debated at the party’s spring conference, and if voted through, will become party policy.

The Greens insisted that the motion ‘is not currently policy’ and said they had not been contacted by the police.

Mr Polanski last week was branded ‘disgusting’ by Conservative shadow minister Neil O’Brien for gloating about a jury failing to convict Palestine Action protesters over a break-in at an Israeli defence firm which left a policewoman with a ‘shattered spine’.

The whistleblower reported the party to the Met Police’s anti-terror hotline for ‘failing to protect its members’ by allowing extremism to prosper, and believes the party could be breaking laws around encouraging terrorism and inciting hatred based on race, religion, or sexual orientation.

They added the party’s legacy of ‘appalling safeguarding and contagious naivety’ had left it open to extremists.

‘It is of no surprise to me that it has been infiltrated and taken over by “arithmetic sectarianism” and extremism,’ they said, referring to the force of numbers.

The member pointed to two other motions proposed for the spring conference – one calling for MPs to ‘oppose the Government’s plan to tackle anti-Semitism and other racism’ – as evidence of its failure to safeguard members.

This week, moderators were forced to delete offensive comments on the party’s internal forum discussing the motion.

In messages seen by the Daily Mail, members called Zionism a ‘weapon’ that leaves ‘a trail of bloody bodies and cultural hegemony in its path’.

A police spokesman said: ‘We treat all reports to the Anti-Terrorist Hotline as confidential and so do not comment on matters that may get reported through this route.’

A Green Party spokesman said: ‘The safety of all members and communities is always a priority in policy-making and discussion.’
