Fans Debate Ye’s Controversial Track ‘Cousins’ Amid Claims It Tops Apple Music’s All-Time Chart

Ye’s controversial track ‘Cousins’ is back in the spotlight — supposedly for topping charts, but most certainly for topping conversations. A recent post on X boldly claimed that the said song is the most-streamed in Apple Music’s history, sparking a widespread debate. While the claim lacks credible backing and appears farther from reality than closer, it has reignited the chatter around the very polarizing number.

A verified X account by the name Skitzo claimed on Friday, July 5, that Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, had made history again, with his recent track ‘Cousins’ reigning supreme on the all-time chart of Apple Music. The handle posted the striking claim alongside a dapper look of the rapper as well as an NSFW picture of a man and a bird, probably hinting at the composition’s themes. It was not long after the post hit the internet that fans rushed to debate the matter.

For those unversed, the lyrics of ‘Cousins,’ released by Ye this April, document the alleged relationship he had with his cousin. The song, for record purposes, also features Dave Bling and Playboi Carti, and a quick Google search tells one that it is available to stream on myriad social media platforms, including the one mentioned above as well as Spotify and SoundCloud.

As whispers of the eyebrow-raising song’s supposed streaming triumph spread, fans wasted no time diving into the discourse with some takes as wild as the claim itself.

Is Ye’s Cousins really breaking records — or just the internet?

Reactions under the X post screamed skepticism as fans blinked, refreshed their feeds, and blinked again, making sure they were not misreading the claim. ‘Cousins’ is the most-streamed song in Apple Music’s history? Doubt echoed louder than praise and rightly so, with many dismissing it as digital daydreaming. While some called it satire, others claimed it was simply wishful thinking dressed up as fact. In a world of figures and receipts, this claim certainly felt more fantasy than record-breaking.

An alternative narrative, meanwhile, had people claiming they did, in fact, stream the song and were responsible for its success. One user, meanwhile, hoped for Ye to delete the song.

Whether the claim holds any truth or simply rides the waves of fan-crafted fiction, ‘Cousins’ has undeniably stirred conversation around itself, putting Ye, who apparently has again changed his moniker, in the spotlight for the same controversial reasons yet again. In the absence of much-needed confirmation from Apple Music, the debate on the song’s place in pop culture remains suspended in the air; however, that is not stopping fans from weighing down with their theories.
