The Kunshan Olympic Sports Centre by gmp Architekten reimagines athletic infrastructure with a sculptural stadium inspired by traditional Chinese folding fans. Located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, the 45,000-seat venue meets FIFA Category 1 standards and debuted in 2024 during the Chinese FA Super Cup. Its iconic form is defined by 36 massive concrete frames and steel trusses that support translucent PTFE membranes, creating a single-layer canopy system that spans over 600 square meters per section, the largest of its kind in China.
Functioning as more than a sports facility, the Kunshan Olympic Sports Centre is anchored within a larger civic park. A raised pedestrian podium and 48 radial bridges ensure smooth crowd flow, while landscaped paths connect visitors to shops, leisure zones, and water features. The result is a multifunctional destination that merges athletics, culture, and urban connectivity into a landmark of structural elegance and community gathering.
