The transformation of Montreal’s historic Club Saint-Denis by HUMÀ Design + Architecture and LumiGroup represents a bold fusion of heritage preservation and contemporary maximalist design. This project effectively reimagines the 135-year-old institution as an exclusive modern workspace and event venue.
The Club Saint-Denis redesign pays homage to the building’s Victorian and Art Deco roots. HUMÀ Design + Architecture and LumiGroup introduced theatrical, immersive elements that create a sense of dramatic progression — from the minimalist concrete-and-glass entrance to the opulent ballroom, which features striking details like an onyx bar, custom frescoes, and botanicals. LumiGroup’s lighting strategy plays a pivotal role in the space’s narrative quality. It incorporates avant-garde fixtures from premium international designers to balance functionality with visual spectacle. his is exemplified by pieces like Maarten Baas’s charred-wood Smoke Chandelier.
