Enchrochat drugs queen who blew £100,000 on cosmetic work, designer clothes and gambling and was sleeping next to £25,000 Rolex when police raided is jailed for four years

A drugs queen who blew £100,000 on cosmetic work, designer clothes and gambling has been jailed for four years.

Jodie Gilmour used the encrypted communication network EnchroChat to launder huge sums of criminal gang money and flood Scotland’s streets with cannabis and Valium.

The 32-year-old was caught smuggling cannabis disguised as candles from Las Vegas to Scotland and was found to have handled more than £500,000 in dirty money.

The High Court in Dundee heard how the cleaning firm boss became part of the drugs underworld to fund a serious gambling problem.

But Gilmour’s empire crashed when customs officials intercepted the drugs package before it was supposed to be delivered to the home she shared with her dealer mother.

Gilmour was in regular contact with numerous drug figures using encrypted mobile phones which detectives managed to crack.

She discussed setting up her own pill factory to make more than a million street Valium tablets, as well as trading high-end luxury watches for drugs and bragging about being able to sell a kilo of cannabis per week.

Gilmour was found sleeping beside a £25,000 Rolex watch when police raided her home in Possilpark, Glasgow, in June 2023, and was found to have passed more than £500,000 through her bank account in just three years.

At the High Court in Dundee, Lord Renucci jailed Gilmour on February 18, saying: ‘Your involvement was significant and enduring, spanning three and a half years.

‘During that period you were engaged in the purchase and onward supply of controlled drugs, and the management of substantial sums of money obtained from that activity.

‘The quantities involved were considerable – that is clear from the messages and the amount of money deposited in your account. The total sum was in excess of £500,000.

‘You appear to have been candid with the author of the report as to the reasons for your involvement, which you admit was for financial gain.

‘This was to fund a gambling problem.’

Lord Renucci granted the Crown’s application for a serious crime prevention order.

Counsel Donald Findlay KC, defending, said: ‘What becomes clear in talking to her was that the centrepiece of her problems was gambling and a gambling addiction.

‘She got drawn into that world primarily to fund her gambling habits.

‘She is not particularly good at linguistics or numbers generally, but as with many serious gamblers, she could look at a dog race at Milton Keynes and tell you naturally what was the best dog.’

Detectives discovered that Gilmour had trafficked tens of thousands of street Valium pills and splashed almost £100,000 on cosmetic work, designer clothes and gambling.

She had earlier admitted her involvement in serious organised crime at Glasgow’s High Court.

Prosecutor Michael Macintosh told how her plot was rumbled when the parcel labelled as containing candles was found to hold £2,200 of cannabis.

Officers moved in on her and her mother Shirley’s home where they seized eight mobile phones as well as £11,183 in cash.

It emerged that Gilmour – who flaunted pictures of wads of banknotes and her new teeth in 2016 – liaised with her drug associates under her username ‘scarabflicker’ on the Encrochat encrypted phone network, which has since been cracked by crime-fighters.

The court heard of texts about the sale of ‘scoobs’, or Benzodiazepines. Gilmour offered to supply 150,000 of the pills to an associate, remarking she had ‘a good few’.

The hood replied: ‘You should have – you’re the queen of scoobs.’

Mr Macintosh said Gilmour, who banked and transferred dirty cash, offered to swap a stolen £35,000 watch for 220,000 tablets.

Other chats mentioned the drugs being ‘belters’ and talked about cannabis deals at £5,300 per kilogram.

Mr Macintosh said Gilmour claimed benefits while a cleaning firm in her name had an annual turnover of up to £43,540.

Some £181,675 went into her account in 2020-21, £155,660 in 2021-22 and £188,890 in 2022-23.

Her spending included £20,000 each on cosmetic procedures and clothes, plus £37,000 gambled away with only £9,000 winnings.

Despite over £500,000 passing through her account in three years, Gilmour declared just £85,134 profit from GMG Cleaning Limited to HMRC during the same period.

Gilmour admitted being involved in serious organised crime at her home in Keppochhill Road, Denmark Street, both Glasgow, and elsewhere, between 1 April 2020 and 20 September 2023.

She admitted using encrypted phones to chat with others about the production, purchase, sale and supply of controlled drugs.

She also admitted to being concerned in the alteration and supply of controlled drugs, and handling organised crime funds through various bank accounts.
