Donald Trump tries to distract from Iran War failures by sacking attorney general blamed for Epstein files fiasco and attacking ‘dried-up prune’ Bruce Springsteen

Donald Trump fired his Attorney General last night amid rumours of a clear-out.

The President informed Pam Bondi that she would be leaving the Justice Department shortly before his Iran speech on Wednesday night, a senior administration source said.

She had faced mounting criticism over her handling of the Epstein files. There are rumours Mr Trump could also axe Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

The President appeared desperate to discuss anything other than Iran yesterday – and even lashed out at Bruce Springsteen, calling him a ‘dried up prune’.

Ms Bondi’s tenure was marred by her handling of the Epstein files, as the government faced accusations of a cover-up. The White House insisted Mr Trump appreciates her work, but he has reportedly excoriated her in private for her failure to prosecute his political enemies.

Mr Trump said that Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general until a permanent nominee is picked.

Ms Gabbard is reportedly in the firing line for refusing to condemn former Director of National Counter Terror Joe Kent at a congressional hearing. Mr Kent resigned last month over opposition to the Iran war.

And last night US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth asked the highest-ranking US Army officer to resign.

General Randy George, who was appointed by former president Joe Biden and is army chief of staff, is understood to have clashed with the administration’s vision for the Army.

Ms Bondi last night confirmed she will remain in the role for another month ‘before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump’.

Mr Trump reignited his war of words with Springsteen in a rant on Truth Social, calling him ‘a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon’.
