The definitive answer to this question.
The Steak Story and Being Paid a Good Price for Your Work
Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter and I’m back today with more advice and an answer to someone’s question. And the question for today really is . . . I’ve distilled this long-winded question down to its core element. Does posting a resume on a job board work? Here’s my answer.
Yes, it works. Everything works in job hunting. And that’s the thing that people lose sight of.
You can send a stupid resume, a ridiculous resume to an employer. Most will turn it down. One will bite.
Posting your resume on a job board, it works. Being contacted by a recruiter, contacting . . . everything works in job search. It just doesn’t work well enough, fast enough, or all the time.
And that’s the frustration most job hunters have. They want to be on that great interview and be hired and have it happen in 10 minutes. Now, that’s not what you say, but you want a lot more ease in the process and you all want to know the single answer that’s going to guarantee that you, sorry, you are hired.
And there is no answer. The best ways often involve introductions by people who you know, who are known and trusted by a hiring manager or business owner. Even that doesn’t guarantee you.
It just gets you a foot in the door. And then, from there, you have to deliver on what the hiring manager or owner has been told. You know, that’s still on you.
That’s just an introduction to a blind date. It’s like a blind date, isn’t it? Someone tells you something that . . . about the person you’re going to meet. Oh, they’re wonderful.
Nicest person, my best friend, honest, good looking. Oh, that’s her. And that’s all that introduction really does for you.
So, you know, it’s all on you and you need to be doing a strategy that has multiple components to it. You have to have your resume on job boards. You have to respond to ads.
And when you’re contacted by people based upon that was the ad that you responded to, you have to actually respond to them and talk to them and sell yourself. You have to learn how to interview well. There’s a whole lot of things that you need to do in order to get a job.
And most of you take the lazy approach, wanting someone like me to answer every question proactively so that you can just arrive and the seas will part and the heavens will open up and all will be good and wonderful. And, like I said, it doesn’t work that way. You’re going to need to work.
And if you’re smart, you’re going to need someone to help you with your work in finding a job. JobSearchCoachingHQ.com is like having me whispering in your ear. Great content, terrific advice, all designed to help you find the position.
