I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I’m a coach who helps people in a variety of different ways. Workplace issues like job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading, dealing with the workplace.
Someone asked me whether it would look bad if they quit their job and were looking for something and the full question reads if you quit a job and are actively searching for a new one does it look bad to potential employers that you’ve already quit and are jobless considering you have not yet been able to explain face-to-face so they’re receiving a resume from you and it shows you’re not working. Well, in some cases, it’ll look bad. In some cases, it’s going to be one of the first questions that they ask you during the interview.
Fundamentally, you’re in a situation where you’ve caused yourself to lose your leverage. You’ve caused yourself to put yourself behind the eight ball to use another cliche and you know it’s like they know when they make an offer unless you have something else you’re going to take the job so they’re always going to try and lowball you and they’re going to be distrustful because you provided an immature response to the situation why do I say immature you couldn’t tough it out and look for a job while getting paid how tough are you so I’ll just say to you folks if you can avoid it do it do avoid quitting your job the exceptions of this is you’re being abused in one way or another by a co-worker a manager you know what I’m talking about just get the hell out of there I’m Jeff Altman.
